Our dear little red book of rights. Read it, use it. Need I say more?

Okay, so here’s the deal. It seems that most of us are still pretty ignorant regarding our rights in Malaysia, particularly when it involves dealing with the police. Here’s your chance to know it all. Sure, you COULD visit the Malaysian BAR Council site to get your very own copy of it. Or, you can download it here. :)

Here’s the link: The Little Red Book of Rights

And the Malay version of it, if you want: Buku Merah Mengenai Hak Anda

Personally, I believe that it’s prerogative for everyone to understand their have rights, and they should exercise them. Don’t be afraid of the cops. It’s rather unfortunate when people are ignorant of their basic human rights, and permit the police to abuse their authoritative powers.

Don’t let the bloody cops have their way. You’re a human being. You have human rights. USE THEM TO YOUR BEST KNOWLEDGE!

Yes well, digging your ears with cotton buds are bad for you. Why?

Right, so we all know that using cotton buds to clean our ears out is perfectly fine, right? Not really. If used just a couple of times, it’s fine. But in the long run, it could actually cause deafness. After prolonged use of cotton buds, otologists; or rather, otolaryngologist, may have to use special equipment to remove any dirt whatsoever that remains very deep in the ear as a result of using cotton buds.

To summarize long articles into a simple one, doctors advise that cotton buds were never invented to clean ear canals, but to clean superficial items or just surface wounds and to apply medicine. Small pieces or particles on the cotton bud tend to remain in the ear canal and that gives opportunity for bacteria to breed and by using a cotton bud, the dirt in the ear is actually being thrust further into the ear canal, hindering its self-clearing process. Some people tend to thrust the cotton bud very deep into the ear and this may result in the damage of the ear drum and a operation may be needed to correct the problem.

Doctors advise to use olive oil, just one or two drops into the ear once a month and the ear will actually cleanse itself, thereafter to use a tissue paper to clean just the outermost part of the ear.

Last but not least, as proof that this happens a lot not only globally, but also back home here in Malaysia, an abstract from a medical journal.

Therefore, today you have learned, just because you have an itch in your ear, or have some excuse for doing it,

This. Is. BAD.

Even if you get a lot of this.

Uses and information about water and our other favorite liquid.

Was running through some old e-mails, and figured that these would make for interesting reading material:

WATER

75% of people are chronically dehydrated.

In 37% of people, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is mistaken for hunger.

Even MILD dehydration will slow down one’s metabolism as much as 3%.

One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of dieters.

Lack of water is the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.

Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers.

A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a printed page.

Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79%., and one is 50% less likely to develop bladder cancer.

Now, let’s compare that to our favorite soft drink, shall we?

COKE

In many states the highway patrol carries two gallons of Coke in the trunk to remove blood from the highway after a car accident.

You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of Coke and it will be gone in two days.

To clean a toilet: Pour a can of Coca-Cola into the toilet bowl and let the “real thing” sit for one hour, then flush clean. The citric acid in Coke removes stains from vitreous china.

To remove rust spots from chrome car bumpers: Rub the bumper with a rumpled-up piece of aluminum foil dipped in Coca-Cola.

To clean corrosion from car battery terminals: Pour a can of Coca-Cola over the terminals to bubble away the corrosion.

To loosen a rusted bolt: Apply a cloth soaked in Coca-Cola to the rusted bolt for several minutes.

To bake a moist ham: Empty a can of Coca-Cola into the baking pan, wrap the ham in aluminum foil, and bake. Thirty minutes before ham is finished, remove the foil, allowing the drippings to mix with the Coke for a sumptuous brown gravy.

To remove grease from clothes: Empty a can of Coke into the load of greasy clothes, add detergent, and run through a regular cycle. The Coca-Cola will help loosen grease stains. It will also clean road haze from your windshield.

FOR YOUR INFORMATION:

The active ingredient in Coke is phosphoric acid. It will dissolve a nail in about four days.

Phosphoric acid also leaches calcium from bones and is a major contributor to the rising increase of osteoporosis.

To carry Coca-Cola syrup (the concentrate) the commercial trucks must use Hazardous Material place cards reserved for highly corrosive materials.

The distributors of Coke have been using it to clean engines of their trucks for about 20 years.

No, this isn’t some article to discourage people from drinking Coke, it’s just some info to ponder upon.

On another note though, I’d rather just have a glass of teh tarik. :)

You might want to read up on this article as well, as it compliments that other article on how you can slash taxes.

Right, it’s been a while since I posted anything, so here’s something good for your info. I would post the contents up here, but the article is rather long, so I’ve enclosed the PDF file here for your reading/downloading pleasure.

Personal Tax Exemptions For The Employee.

Please right click and save the page if you want, that is if you don’t have the Adobe Reader plug-in for your web browser.

Please note that these tax exemptions are not applicable towards directors of controlled companies, sole proprietors (read: you businessmen out there) and partners. These tax exemptions go nicely with my other post on how you can slash taxes. Have fun reading. :)

Credits go to Mdm. Yong Siew Chuen who was the author of this article. Enjoy.
